Why plan a Visit to Scotland in 2009 ? In 2009, Visit Scotland are planning a programme of events called Homecoming Scotland to mark the 250 th anniversary of the birth of Robert Burns. However, Homecoming Scotland is not only about our National Bard, Robert Burns. The events in 2009 will also include a celebration of some of Scotland's great contributions to the world: Golf, Whisky, The Enlightenment and Innovation, as well as our rich culture and heritage which lives on at home and through the many people of Scots descent who live out with our shores. The Homecoming Scotland programme will involve a calendar of exciting events and activities throughout 2009, including a huge Clan Gathering in Edinburgh. (see below) So there are many reasons to visit the home of your ancestors in 2009 and of course re-visit the locations of your family's past as well as enjoying the events to celebrate the Robert Burns anniversary.
